Jane's Plain Sailing

JANE As a lifelong sailor and a physio of 35 years Jane is passionate about combining her love of sailing with encouraging and empowering others to live their lives to the full! Jane Sailed all her life, all family holidays on the water and sailing, from dinghies to yachts. By 20 years old she’d sailed to France and Spain numerous times and helped 2 others deliver a 24 foot sailing boat from Exmouth UK to the Balearics. Jane has raced many types of dinghies, catamarans and keel boats, and has owned her own 27 foot sailing boat

I discovered Jane’s Plain Sailing trip through a Facebook post highlighting an all-women sailing week in Croatia. The concept immediately caught my eye — a female-led crew, exploring the Dalmatian coast under sail. It sounded empowering and adventurous, and I’m happy to say it exceeded expectations. Jane herself is extraordinary — warm, capable, and a truly accomplished sailor. From the moment we stepped aboard, I felt completely safe in her hands. Her co-host, Suzy, was equally wonderful: a joyful presence and a phenomenal cook who kept us well-fed with fresh, healthy meals all week. The boat was chartered through Sunsail. While it was a bit tight for six (and would’ve been very snug with the full eight), it didn’t take away from the experience. The original listing and the actual boat didn’t quite match, but that felt like a Sunsail issue more than anything Jane could control. Our group of women — most of us strangers at the start — quickly formed a lovely camaraderie. We laughed, we sailed, we shared stories and sunsets. We had a little bit of everything: stunning anchorages, good wind for sailing, one spontaneous romantic detour, and plenty of bonding moments. This is not a luxury trip — and that’s actually part of the charm. You pitch in, take your navy showers, dry your hair in the breeze, and emerge from the elements to enjoy wine on deck or dinner in a harbor town. It’s adventure with a touch of grit, not glam — more “camping on the water” than floating resort. But if you’re up for that, it’s magical. I’d recommend Jane's Plain Sailing to anyone looking for connection, adventure, and a different kind of getaway. Just pack a sense of humor, a little flexibility, and your favorite sundress — you’ll use all three.

Just back from a week sailing the Ionian sea with Karen as skipper, Karen as host and Val as crew. An amazing week, great sailing spots, food was fab, berths @ night for the real Greek experience, would recommend for solo female travellers and groups.

I absolutely enjoyed my time sailing the Ionian Sea! Amazing skipper and host, nice and friendly people as crew. :-) A great combination of helping out with the daily tasks, sailing, and relaxing. Delicious food, beautiful islands and views... A bit more mingling time with people from the other boat would have been nice in order to become a real group instead of 2 "separate groups". I mean, not just having dinner together, but also during the day. Maybe it would be good to add "sailing gloves" to the list of things to bring aboard.

Our group of women gathered for our dear friend’s 59th birthday with the aim of enjoying a holiday whilst learning how to sail. The entire experience was magical! Jane and her team are outstanding. Our skipper was so talented, our host was enchanting, serving delicious meals and words of wisdom and our swim stops, ports and moonlit escapades will live on as a memory that lingers on as a lifetime highlight. We wish Jane every success and highly recommend this to women who want a challenge and who yearn to connect and celebrate life!

What an amazing week! I refound my “mojo” and confidence after a tough year losing my mother. A week of fresh air, sailing, sunshine, swimming, fantastic food and some amazing inspiring women. I was a little anxious travelling alone, but would never hesitate again. We arrived as strangers and left as friends for life. Thank you! See you again soon :-) Sue
